In May 2009, a suicide strike on MVD Grozny in Chechnya left a toll of four dead and twenty four wounded. The authorities instantly blamed Beslan Tchagiev and the terrorist cluster of Dokku Umarov for the attack. 24 hours later, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) issued a press statement explaining in summary how and where the security forces ferreted out and liquidated four future suicide bombers connected with the attack. The photographs in this series were taken in the precise locations listed in the reports as the “theater of operations”, and were taken immediately after the MVD press release went online.
Press release 1: Adam Belimkhanov, 24, member of the insurgency group, is liquidated. The authorities caught up with Adam on Doprizyvnikov’s Street, opposite house number 1. He was surrounded and killed while attempting to release a hand grenade.
Press release 2: Terrorist Alvi Tcherseev, 24, is liquidated in the course of a counter-terrorism operation on Kolcevaya Street. Kolcevaya Street 2, Grozny, Chechnya. 2 May 17th, 2009
Press release 3: Taimer Yabaidullaev, 26, until now in a federal search, is liquidated on Yaroslavskaya Street, in house 33. Taimer was surrounded. He was armed and offered resistance before being killed by “returned fire”.
