The Topography of Abductions in The North Caucasus
In March 2002, approximately twenty armed and masked military and law enforcement officers stormed the Dzambekov household in Goity, Chechnya. After an hour-long search, the men collected a number of household items, including jewellery and documents. At gunpoint, they dragged Imran Dzambekov, 23, out of the house. The men offered no explanation for Imran's arrest, and did not tell the family where they were going. Although Zainap, Imran's mother, had recorded the license plates on both vehicles involved in the abduction, the investigation into the case yielded no results and was dropped due to a lack of evidence. Imran remains missing.
